I was writing today, inspired by a handful of posts and clips from facebook, when I remembered a journal entry I wrote back in January. I never posted it and have been vacillating back-and-forth all evening about where to share it – here or as a devotional on my author page. Well, I decided I’d share it, slightly modified, with you here instead of re-working it into a devotional post. May you be inspired!

Inspire Your Heart with Art. That’s what the “National Day of” e-mail said on January 31st. Inspire. I have to say I found the word, oh I don’t know, a mockery of my current day? Ironic? I don’t know. So I sat, and I pondered the word. Is there inspiration in advanced stage cancer? Is there inspiration in my husband’s pain? Is there inspiration in my sadness and that most difficult journey? And I have to smile, albeit slight, because yes, there is.
There is inspiration in the devotion to our Lord, and to each other. There is inspiration in the gentle surrender to a path not chosen, but to a Father in heaven whom we trust. There is inspiration in the shed tears as I pray our shared journey brings others closer to the Lord, and their loved ones. There is inspiration in our reliance on God and the care He sends through His church. And there is inspiration in the gentleness of my husband as he calls out to his savior for healing and mercy and help.
The art that inspires my heart is not a painting or a sculpture or a photograph, but the beauty of the art that is life. Humbled. Giving. Trusting. Broken. Loving.
So, yes, today and everyday, Inspire Your Heart.
