In Its Time

“In its time” Isaiah 60:22

“In its time.”

The last words of Isaiah 60 end a beautiful prophetic description of a coming kingdom, that Jesus ultimately fulfilled, with, “I am Yahweh; I will accomplish it quickly in its time.”

Quickly.  —  In its time.

Those two seem diametrically opposed.

They are not.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been planning, processing, healing, preparing, waiting – pick one – around an action. God and I were taking His time to do whatever was needed to be ready (regardless of outside “encouragement” or proding). From the outside (and even within at times), it all looked so slow; like no progress was being made.

Until it was time.

Once that “it’s time” switch flipped – watch out. Time to bust a move and get cracking. Things suddenly moved quickly and swiftly, with purpose and intent. The metaphorical wheels turned smoothly and things fell into place; forward progress seemed to be made by leaps and bounds.

But that only happened because the task waited until its proper time.

How often are we tempted to jump before it’s time; to rush into something before we’re ready?

It is okay to go slow. God does it ALL the time – with amazing results. When we surrender to Him as the Master and charge of our lives – our schedules and plans and all the things – we also need to wait on Him; for His timing in how, when, and where we move. He does have a beautiful plan, and it will be accomplished quickly… in its time.

Be content to go at God speed. You may be delightfully surprised at its slow pace.
